After the shower: a quiet moment that is yours alone

October 23, 2026 · 1 minute read

Two women with freckled, dewy skin wrapped in soft green towels after the shower

There is a particular stillness after a warm shower. The mirror is misted, the house is quiet, and for a few minutes nobody needs anything from you. It is one of the easiest moments in the day to turn into a ritual, because it is already there.

Stay warm, stay slow

Have everything ready before you step in: a soft towel, something comfortable to change into and whatever you use on your skin. When you step out, wrap up straight away so you are not rushing because you are cold.

Pat, don't rub

Pat your skin dry rather than rubbing it, and treat your hair the same way: squeeze out the water and wrap it gently. Use the time while your hair rests to apply your moisturiser with slow, unhurried movements.

For this step: Multipurpose Microfibre Hair Towel and 5-Piece Microfibre Makeup Towels.

A minute of stillness

Before you move on with your day or evening, pause. Sit on the edge of the bath, roll your shoulders back and take three slow breaths. Notice how your skin feels. This minute is the part of the ritual that matters most, and it costs nothing.

Change into comfort

Slip into something soft. If it is the evening, keep the lights low and let this be the start of winding down rather than the beginning of another task.

Self-care does not have to be elaborate. Sometimes it is simply choosing to be gentle with yourself for ten minutes, and doing it again tomorrow.
